Many visitors to Beaufront think that they are coming to the back end of beyond ( and of course in some ( welcome) senses they are !) but they also marvel at how much is happening within less than five miles of the front door .
Hexham has an annual Book Festival that attracts “A List ” authors , a thriving Arts Centre at the Queen’s Hall ( which has a year round programme that is very varied) . There’s plenty of music at the Abbey , which also has its own annual festival, and of course there are regular meetings at Hexham race course .
Corbridge has its Summer Chamber Music festival in the Saxon church in the centre of the village , an enormous Real Ale Festival ( held , predictably ,at the Tynedale Rugby Club) . Indeed that Club is one of the best in the North and its home games are well worth watching from comfortable surroundings .
Every Bank Holiday Monday in late May nearby Bywell hosts the Northumberland County Show.
World Heritage Site , Hadrian’s Wall, has frequent Roman events and even a regular bus service ( the No 122 – commemorating the year the Wall was built) to get you to some hard to reach places . Some very scenic parts of the Wall are less than a mile from Beaufront
There are several websites listing and describing specific events and one that aims to cover all that’s happening locally . Here’s a link to it http://www.visithexham.net. That site is a good one because once in it you can then click through to sites covering many of the things mentioned above.
